I am currently stationed in TEC A where I do different tests on different JST products. JST does business with other businesses. What that means is that if a company like Toyota, Sony, or Panasonic (I'm just throwing names out there, they may or may not actually be businesses that JST deals with. That I do not know) sends a request for a connector piece, we fabricate the order or test compatibility.
I've done sample building, putting the samples through different environmental tests, perform various mechanical and electrical tests. Some examples are putting samples through thermal shock tests, heat tests, vibration tests, tensile strength tests, and checking the resistance change of the material.
I think this is the best that I could do to nutshell what I've been doing. I wrote a sample report before leaving for TEC, so I'm assuming more reports will be on their way.
